Peg Herring offers entertaining, useful presentations based on her years as an educator, author, and communicator. If your group is looking for a dynamic and interesting speaker, consider the following topics.
Every Teacher Could Write a Book - (Time adjustable) - Teachers have to learn more than they teach, and here are some lessons that make the job easier:
Mystery Talk - (one hour) - Lively and entertaining discussion of today’s mysteries,
the different types, the people who write them, and some up-and-coming authors to try.
Suitable for library groups, librarians, reading groups.
Historical Novel Talk - (one hour) - Animated discussion of a favorite genre for
many readers, stories set in other times and places. Audiences get an introduction to the
types of historical novels, the established authors in each, and some intriguing new possibilities.
Suitable for library groups, librarians, reading groups.
Encouraging Readers - (one hour) - Those of us who love to read would also like to
encourage others, but how is it best done? Peg gives suggestions and leads a discussion on
how to create avid readers, both old and young.
Suitable for library groups, librarians, reading groups, parent groups.
Write, Edit, Publish - (Four hours) - Many people are interested in publishing
but don’t know how to get started. Some may be stalled in the writing process itself,
others may have written work that needs editing, and still others feel their project is
ready for query letters and editorial scrutiny. Peg guides writers through the process,
giving specific, usable information on how to write that piece, how to edit it to top form,
and how to present it to an agent or publisher for optimal effect. This is a workshop with
hands-on exercises and specific examples.
Suitable for library enrichment courses, colleges, author support groups, lifelong learning groups.
Communicating on the Job - (time varies to suit requirements of group) - Does the first impression you create at a job interview or sales meeting impress others or eliminate any possible success? When you interact with coworkers, are your points clearly made or clear as mud?
This interactive and useful presentation focuses on how communication happens and how to improve it. Everyone, from shy to bold, will benefit from information, tips, and exercises designed to make audience members aware of how they communicate and how they can do it better.
Peg’s years of experience in the classroom, in dramatics, and in various fields of public
communication supply a wealth of information for those whose livelihood depends on getting a
verbal message across.
Suitable for business groups, colleges.
